Virtue: Prologue has been announced and released for PC on 22 October 2026, with free access through Pantaloon’s newly launched Playbill. The companion to Virtue and a Sledgehammer is a timed Playbill exclusive, though no end date for that arrangement has been announced.[1][2][3]
This is a single-player experimental visual novella rather than the action-focused experience of the main game. Created by Juno Menager in collaboration with Deconstructeam and Selkie Harbour, and published by Devolver Digital, it introduces the characters and relationships behind Virtue and a Sledgehammer.[1]
Childhood memories before the demolition
The story follows a drive home, revisiting childhood memories before the protagonist demolishes their hometown. Deconstructeam describes the prologue as interactive fiction covering events that lead into Virtue and a Sledgehammer.[4]
Those memories include navigating first love with a wealthy boy from Barcelona, sneaking into a graveyard at night with the protagonist’s sister, and climbing a tree for a consequential conversation. The emphasis is on those personal encounters and the feelings attached to them, rather than the main game’s violent catharsis.
Rock Paper Shotgun’s report describes expressive text presentation and interaction using the left mouse button. It also notes that the novella reuses assets from the main game.[5]
The studios and the main game
Deconstructeam’s previous work includes Gods Will Be Watching, The Red Strings Club, Essays on Empathy and The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood. The studio has also worked with Selkie Harbour before: the pair released the meditative third-person archery game Many Nights a Whisper in 2025.[6]
Selkie Harbour is a Valencia-based studio comprising Guillermo Ferrando and Manon Gevers. Its collaboration with Deconstructeam began in 2022, and Many Nights a Whisper was its first commercial release.[7]
The two Virtue releases have separate dates. While the prologue is available now, Virtue and a Sledgehammer is scheduled for PC via Steam on 27 October 2026. That game is a narrative exploration experience about destroying your hometown and confronting android versions of its former inhabitants.[1]
