Das Spiel spielt 300 Jahre nach Ghost of Tsushima. Schauplatz sind die Länder rund um den Berg Yōtei, einen aufragenden Gipfel im Herzen von Ezo, einem Gebiet Japans, das heute als Hokkaido bekannt ist. Die Region liegt außerhalb der Herrschaft Japans und ist voller weitläufiger Grasländer, verschneiter Tundren und unerwarteter Gefahren.
